How is a commercial system sized differently from a house?
Houses size by bedrooms; commercial systems size by measured or estimated daily flow, and the state publishes flow figures per seat, per employee or per fixture depending on the use. A 60 seat restaurant and a 6 bay shop with the same square footage need wildly different systems, which is why the first design question is always what happens inside the building.
Does a food service building need something extra?
Yes, a grease trap or grease interceptor ahead of the septic tank, sized to the kitchen. Grease is the fastest killer of commercial drainfields, and the trap plus a pumping schedule is what stands between your parking lot and a very expensive dig.
Our church only fills up twice a week. Does that help the price?
It genuinely can. Intermittent-use buildings can sometimes run smaller field designs than their peak headcount suggests, because the soil gets recovery time between loadings. The state still sets the rules, but presenting the real use pattern in the application is part of designing honestly for it.
What does the permit process look like for a business?
